Welcome to The Psychology Garden, dedicated to the late Dr. Lorraine Allan, McMaster alumna and professor of psychology.
Lorraine, who is well known for her research contributions on time perception, was a co-editor on the book, Timing and Time Perception (1984), which is widely recognized as a crucial text in its field.
Aside from her own research, Lorraine was an extremely skilled and nurturing professor and mentor and was noted for possessing a special skill for connecting her students with the importance of mathematics in psychology, a subject that many students initially feel hesitant towards.
You’ll notice certain engravings on the stone floor of the garden, including the names of Lorraine’s loved ones, symbols and formulas representing her academic theories, a group of five butterflies representing her five closest friends and a phrase written in Yiddish, translating to “Man plans and God laughs.”
