Campus Design Advisory Committee

Campus Design Advisory Committee (CDAC)

The Campus Design Advisory Committee (CDAC) provides expert guidance on the design of buildings and outdoor spaces across all McMaster University campuses. This committee ensures that major construction projects align with the McMaster Campus Plan and support the University’s strategic vision.

Mandate

The CDAC:

  • Advises on major capital and significant design projects.
  • Reviews proposals for design integrity, feasibility, and alignment with campus development goals.
  • Considers community needs, environmental impact, heritage, and accessibility.
  • Recommends land use strategies and future campus planning principles.

Membership

The Committee includes:

  • Senior university leaders (e.g., VP Operations, AVP Facilities, MSU President)
  • Faculty and administrative representatives
  • Up to 5 external design professionals (architecture, engineering, urbanism)
  • Ex-officio members from Facility Services

Chair: Associate Vice-President and Chief Facilities Officer
Term: 1 year (renewable)

Members must disclose any potential conflicts and recuse themselves when necessary to maintain objectivity and integrity.
